The Things We Do For Love

Chapter 1: Crush

He is undoubtedly the most handsome boy she's ever seen. His dark hair is much longer than the boys she usually falls for, being so low that it's tied back into a ponytail at the nape of his neck. But, despite that, she still can't help staring at him.
His eyes are the darkest she's ever seen. They glisten like two onyx gems, and they captivate her by their incredible depth and mysteriousness.  Two lines go down his face on either side of his nose, stopping just above his cheeks.
He seems so cool and relaxed for being the new guy in town. All the girls in school must be fawning over him. She can't compete against all of them. Being the girl with the strange blue hair, she isn't exactly the coolest person in school. She has many friends though, thanks to her bubbly personality. However, she also has a few enemies. If anyone teases her about her hair, she'll give them a piece of her mind, along with a knuckle sandwich to chew on.
At this point in time though, she considers herself to be the luckiest girl in the world. Why? Because the mysterious, handsome young man is sitting at the desk next to her of course!
  "Konan?"
Her head snaps up to look at the teacher, Mr. Iruka. "Yes?"
"What's the answer to the question I just asked."
Her eyes grow wide. She hasn't been paying attention, so she has no idea what the question, or the answer is.
The boy with the ponytail leans toward her. "Forty-seven," he whispers.
  She clears her throat. "Forty-seven."
Iruka sighs. "Good, but next time I'd like you to answer without Mr. Uchiha's help."
She blushes a little and looks over to the boy. He just shrugs and flashes her a quick grin. She smiles too, and then looks back at the board.
Perhaps she does stand a chance after all.

"So… You probably hear this a lot, but is that your natural hair color?"
Mr. Iruka's class has just ended, and everyone is packing up their things to leave for the next class they have. Konan looks up in the middle of gathering her things together and sees the Uchiha boy standing up, staring at her.
"Um, y-yes." She tucks her hair behind her ear nervously. "Yes, it's natural."
He nods his head. "That's cool. It's a pretty color."
She smiles. "Thanks. I'm really glad you think so. Most people tease me about it."
"That's because it's different, and most people don't like different."
She stands up, holding her books to her chest. "Do you like different?"
The corner of his mouth curves up into a crooked smile. Konan feels herself growing weak in the knees. "I love different."
She giggles and her eyes grow wide at the strange sound that came out of her mouth. She just sounded like a giddy, preppy school girl. She's never giggled like that before.
"By the way," he says, holding out his hand. "My name is Itachi. Itachi Uchiha."
She takes his hand and shakes it. "I'm Konan Haruno."
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I hope you don't mind, but could you help me find my next class? I have no idea where it is."
She smiles again. "Sure! Let me see your schedule."
He pulls his schedule out of his pocket and hands it to her.
She looks at it. "Oh, you have gym class. I'll show you where that is. It's on the other side of the school."
"Thank you." He returns his schedule to his pocket.
"No problem." She guides him out of the classroom. "So where did you come from?"
"My mother," he says, and then grins at her.
She rolls her eyes and smiles. "You know what I meant."
He chuckles. "I just moved from Gensō."
  "Wow, that's pretty far."
  "Yes it is."
  "Do you miss living there?"
He nods his head. "A little bit. But I have a feeling I'm going to like this place much more."
Her brows pulls together. "Why is that?"
He just looks at her with his deep, dark eyes. They almost seem to be smiling at her. After a moment, she realizes what he meant, and a blush colors her cheeks.
"U-Um," she tucks her hair behind her ear. "We're here."
"Oh," he says, and nods his head. "Well thank you, Konan. I really appreciate your help."
She smiles and nods her head. "You're quite welcome."
  "Hopefully I'll see you around."
  He starts to walk away.
"Yeah…" she says, a smile spreading across her face. "Hopefully."

After school is over, Konan is walking down the road towards her house. A small, pink-haired little girl is clutching onto her hand, swinging it back and forth. She is wearing a green dress and humming "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
"So how was school today, Sakura?" Konan asks her little sister.
Sakura stops humming for a moment and glances up at her sister. She sticks out her tongue and then continues to hum.
Konan frowns. "That's not very nice, Sakura."
  "Are we almost home, Konan?"
Konan sighs. "Yes, Sakura. Now tell me, how was your day?"
  "How was your day, Konan?"
She sighs. "I asked you first."
  "So?"
She stops walking and looks at Sakura. Sakura looks up at her with a fierce, fiery look in her eyes. Seeing that look in her eyes, Konan knows that her sister is going to be just as stubborn as she is. Somehow though, she always manages to get her to give up. "I'm your older sister. You're supposed to respect me and do as I say."
  "Nu-uh!"
  "Uh-huh!"
  "Nu-uh!"
Konan rolls her eyes. "Answer me, Sakura!" Sakura tries to run away, but Konan tightens her grip on her sister's hand. "Now!"
Sakura starts crying hysterically and wailing loudly as she falls to the ground. "Leave me alone!" She screams.
  Konan's eyes widen. "Sakura…"
Sakura covers her face with her tiny hands as tears flow rapidly down her cheeks.
Konan kneels down next to her and pulls her into a hug. "Shh, it's okay." She rubs her hand up and down her back, trying to soothe her.
What could have made her this hysterical? Konan can only think of one thing, and that would be that the kids were making fun of her in school. She knew it would happen eventually. It is unfortunate that they both inherited  unusual hair colors from their parents.
Sakura begins to calm down a little bit. Konan pulls back from the hug and wipes the tears off of Sakura's face. She tilts her head up so she's looking up at her. "Will you please tell me what happened now?" she asks gently.
Sakura sniffs her nose and wipes it on her sleeve. "T-They c-called me b-billboard brow."
Konan frowns. She didn't expect that. They were making fun of her forehead and not her hair? Her forehead is a little large, but she didn't think it was worth making fun of. Kids will use any excuse these days. "Billboard brow, huh?"
She nods her head, sniffing her nose again.
  "Well you know what?"
  "Hmm?"
"My classmates make fun of me too."
  "T-They do?"
"Yes. It's because we're different from everyone else. Just ignore them and tell them your big sister will come and beat them up if they don't leave you alone."
Sakura giggles. "Okay. What if they don't stop though?"
"Then tell the teacher. If that doesn't work, then tell me and I really will beat them up."
She frowns. "But Konan, momma said violence isn't--"
"I don't care what mom says. I won't tolerate anyone picking on my precious little sister."
  She smiles. "Thank you, Konan."
  "You're welcome. Now c'mon. Let's go home."
  "Okay!"
They stand up and Sakura grabs a hold of Konan's hand. She smiles down at her sister and start their walk back home. If she finds out that they're still picking on her, there will be hell to pay.
"Konan, how was your day?" Sakura asks again.
"Hmm?" She shakes her head, snapping out of her thoughts. "My day?"
  "Uh-huh!"
Konan thinks back and suddenly remembers Itachi. A blush colors her cheeks and she gives a nervous laugh. "My day was good."
Sakura looks up at her curiously, seeing the blush on her older sister's cheeks.   "Why are you blushing?"
Konan's eyes widen and her cheeks turn even redder. "B-Blushing? I'm not blushing."
Sakura giggles. "Yes you are. You have a crush."
Konan laughs. "Don't be silly, Sakura. I don't have a crush on anyone."
  "Yes you do."
  "No, I don't. Really."
  "Liar."
"It's not nice to call someone a liar, Sakura."
"It's not nice to lie, Konan."
  Konan chuckles.
She can't have a crush on him yet though. Sure, he's handsome, nice, funny, and is probably the only boy in school that likes her blue hair. There's no way she could crush on him after just meeting him though. Or, at least that's what she hopes.
Blah... I've been wanting to continue my SasuSaku story, but the only story I've been in the mood to write so far is this one. So I guess I'm just going to go with the flow for now and write this until I get in the mood again for my other story.

Anyway, as you can guess, this is Konan's side of my story "Secret Love". If you just happened to come across this and haven't read my other story yet, I suggest that you do that to understand everything a little bit better. It's not really necessary, I guess, but it might be helpful. I'll leave the link here: [link]

I hope you all enjoy this chapter, and please let me know if you want more!
